A Misty Sunrise at the Tor

from £74.99

Story behind the shot:

When I first started photography 4 years ago, sunsets and sunrises have always grabbed my attention. I first started in the back garden taking pictures of branches and flowers against the sunset sky and then started watching the birds feeding in my garden. I live near the Somerset Levels and this is where I grew up watching Nature from a young age.

The sun had just risen behind Glastonbury Tor. The colours were beginning to get colourful by the minute and the cows were walking towards the gate probably waiting for the farmer to arrive with some hay. The cows play a big part of the shot, but the layering is what drew me in. The bulrushes in-front of the mist. The early morning glow firing up the mist. All these elements make this come together. I took this handheld because it was a windy morning and I didn’t want to miss that moment before the clouds in the distant had moved on by. Using my Dad’s car as a tripod! I have been to this area tens of times before. Sometimes it’s just a case of going back somewhere different time of day.

With many pictures of Glastonbury Tor already out there in the media I wanted something that would be different to just the sun and the Tor.

The cows were changing direction and moving around. So I took roughly a hundred photos so then I can look back to see which photo had the best position.
